Google Fiber Brainstorming Session Yields Results

A small but diverse group met last night at the Greensboro Public Library to discuss ways to help bring Google Fiber to Greensboro…and that meeting has already shown results.

Roughly a dozen citizens turned out at the session to share their ideas and brainstorm new concepts.  Assistant City Manager Denise Turner was on hand to share some ideas that the city already has in motion while the group worked on new ideas.  One of the concepts discussed was the possibility of diversifying Greensboro’s marketing efforts among different age, ethnic and religious groups.

To that end, Grimsley High School student Steven Buccini left the meeting and immediately started the Facebook group Students That Want Google Fiber For Greensboro! The group is believed to be the first of it’s kind on Facebook (based on Facebook keyword searches for Google Fiber+Students) among cities competing for Google and after less than 12 hours, had over 150 members.   I’m expecting that number to grow rapidly as word spreads among Greensboro Schools.

All in attendance agreed on the importance of getting the community to show their support for Greensboro with several attendees promising to start their own grassroots campaigns in their workplaces and social groups.
